DREAMERS.ID - Dua aktor muslim yakni Ramy Youssef dan Mahershala Ali berhasil masuk dalam nominasi Emmy Awards 2020 lewat penampilannya di acara sitkom ‘Ramy’.
Aktor sekaligus pelawak Ramy Youssef masuk ke dalam dua nominasi Emmy Awards 2020 yakni Outstanding Lead Actor dan Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. Sementara Mahershala Ali masuk dalam nominasi Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Mengutip CNN, ‘Ramy’ sekaligus menjadi acara sitcom Muslim Amerika pertama yang pernah masuk ke Emmy. Dalam sitcom tersebut diceritakan karakter Rammy, seorang keturunan Mesir berkebangsaan Amerika yang berjuang untuk menyeimbangkan nilai-nilai budaya dan agamanya disamping pergaulan milenial di Amerika.
Meskipun ‘Ramy’ berfokus pada karakter Muslim Amerika, acara ini mampu meraih penonton yang memiliki beragam latar belakang etnis dan agama. Penonton bisa merasakan hal yang sama lewat ketakutan si karakter akan kehidupan asmara, karier, hingga mengadapi orang tua.
